Linnet

The other day my mum told me she read something about Lesser Redpoll liking to hang around with Goldfinches. Later on I saw a group of Goldfinches and different bird sat on the bird feeder. I got my camera and took a few photos, it is often easier to identify the birds when you can zoom in. To my surprise, it was a male and female Lesser Redpoll!

Lesser Redpolls

Lesser Redpolls are on the red list. They have a wingspan of up to 22.5cm and weigh 12g. There are 220,000 UK breeding pairs. They eat seeds, particularly off birch and alder, plus plants like willowherb and sorrel, but they also visit bird feeders.
